Gangwon-do announced that the results of the water quality test jointly performed by private and government institutions on apartment and multi-unit buildings in 18 cities and counties (-gun) in the first half of this year showed that the water supply to all the buildings evaluated (620 in total) satisfied the standards.

In contrast to the water quality test had been performed at water treatment plants in the past, this year's test was conducted at multi-unit dwellings to analyze the water that residents actually receive. In order to ensure the transparency and reliability of the water quality test, water samples were collected in the presence of private organizations and civilians such as the village headmen and the chairwomen of women's associations. There were 10 test items for each housing unit such as presence of E.Coli and 58 items for each building complex.

The results showed that 27 items including presence of E.Coli and heavy metals such as lead, mercury and arsenic were negative, which proves that the water supply in Gangwon-do is clean and safe to drink.

In order to boost the residents' confidence in the water quality test, Gangwon-do will perform the joint test with private organizations more actively and dedicate its efforts to supply safe drinking water to the provincial residents by performing continuous and thorough water quality tests.
